Lovely, sly, intelligent and witty ... An Education is one of the best 2009 has to offer. Carey Mulligan is perfection and the rest of the cast is almost as good. Rosamund Pike plays vacuous blonde, Peter Sarsgaard is devilishly charming and Alfred Molina and Cara Seymour are twitterpatted parents.
I had read both the memoir and the Hornby screenplay so I wasn't let down by any of this film. I have heard complaints that the last third of the film feels rushed ... but I didn't get that and I think it brings the story around.
Filmgoers don't get a jewel like this one very often. The cast, the original soundtrack, and the attention to period detail were all wonderfully handled by director Lone Scherfig. I loved An Education -- it was splendid.
