Review of An American Werewolf in London (1981) by Jonny B — 18 Oct 2011
John Landis's hilarious movie is known for its horrifying transformation scene with effects that are still impressive, hitherto. The characters are playful and naive making them fine to spend ninety-minutes with but there's more 'An American Werewolf in London' has to offer than genre references: just imagine, your best friend has been killed by a werewolf, you are now becoming one, your dead buddy is talking to you telling you to end your life before you kill but you are in love .
. . so instead turning this into a slasher pic, the filmmakers did the right by exploring the sets of moral challenges, emotions, and fevered fears that come with being a werewolf - and they succeeded.
This is how to pay homage to a sub-genre you love while revolutionizing it with self-awareness, a blaring and amazing rock soundtrack, and a disregard to established setups in classic tales of werewolves.
Anything but a bad time 'An American Werewolf in London' is.
