Review of An American Werewolf in London (1981) by Anthony B — 19 Feb 2012
Uhm, remember how I said Dog Soldiers was the best werewolf movie, ever? Well, it still is! But, so is this. hahaha!
This is cliche in that the actress who shows her breast in every film she has ever been in, does it again. It makes me feel sorry for her. She can act, you know? Let her keep her top on, so she can prove it, once in a while, eh?
That being said, this movie has a perfect "going into a creep establishment where everyone wants to kill you for being a foreigner" vibe in the scene where they go in to seek shelter, food and information. Though, some would argue that it isn't really acting, it's just that the main actors were American and the rest were not.
The scene where the Pied Pepper changes from good guy to bad wolf is really quite amazing. it knocked everyone's socks off, at the time, and it still looks pretty good, despite all the advancements in FX.
This is everything a National Lampoon movie should be, but, mostly is not. Anyone who made this film should be ashamed to have gone on to make Van Wilder. Not that they shouldn't have been ashamed, anyway.
An added kick to this movie is at the end, when one begins to wonder "How will they list who played the creepy little girls" and then one reads how it is done.
Best watched on a big screen, though, as, for some reason, the dead people look less dead, and more like actors sitting around with meat hanging off their face as if they have just angered a butcher, on the small screen.
