A really lovely film, just the way I remembered it. Better than disney films of the time, it has a powerfull nostalgic magic to it which washes over you as soon as that shiver inducing, beautifuly bitter sweet james horner music begins.
Even the songs have aged well, and the aimation is superb and richly detailed. An american tail has a tougther edge to it than usual in animated films, and the tone is almost mournfull, and sad throughout, proof that not all animated childrens movies need be overly comedic and totaly safe and colourfull, I miss the days when kids films were this quality.
