Review of An American Tail (1986) by Carol H — 14 Nov 2012
After watching this movie, I now know why most animated protagonists are in their tweens or teens. It's because that's the age where children are growing up. Tween and teen heroes have a sense of spirit and independence that makes them irresistible.
Fievel, on the other hand, was *too* young. He's just a vulnerable, dependent little kid. "An American Tail" had good intentions - and it's hard to criticize a movie with good intentions - but it just didn't do the trick for me.
