Review of An American in Paris (1951) by William F — 09 Aug 2008
Gene Kelly's dance sequences were fantastic, especially, "I Got Rhythm". Also, Oscar Levant, the pianist and killjoy, was an amusing character. However, I didn't really like this film, mostly for the disappointing ending.
I noticed some obvious Hemingway references, as Kelly mirrors some of Hemingway's actual life: Kelly is an expatriate living in Paris after a war. He's a struggling artist, and lastly, he's clad in Papa's iconic long billed baseball cap.
