Review of An American in Paris (1951) by Gabi B — 02 May 2011
Best Picture winner for 1951, this MGM musical fits the mold of the classic musical. It has dancing, singing, colorful sets and costumes, and Gene Kelly. Set to the music of George Gershwin, this is a delightful film about a painter who finds inspiration in a young French girl. The story may be a little flat, but it makes up in its music and song. Gene Kelly has to be one of the greatest musical stars ever and he brings his A-game to every song and dance. The final 17 minutes will blow you away and is what you call a work of art and should be seen by every fan of musicals and dancing. This is one of those movie musicals that shouldn't be missed.
