Review of An American in Paris (1951) by Dan L — 07 Sep 2013
The plot, like in many of these kind of movies, seems to try to rush to tie up loose ends and the finish and end up the weaker for it (in my opinion the last scene, after the long dance sequence, should have been cut altogether--the guy and gal shouldn't always have to end up together), but the musical numbers and dancing are unparallelled, and the movie entertains like few others throughout.
It makes one miss the days of the versatile actor--the singer/dancers like Gene Kelly-- and miss a time when film was less cynical, when happy endings always awaited.
