Review of An American in Paris (1951) by Deena O — 17 Jul 2007
I love Gershwin. I love Minnelli. I love Gene Kelly. People don't like this one so much. I don't understand why. I think it has more charm than Singin in the Rain. I felt a bit of magic and passion here that I haven't felt from too many films.
I always recommend it before Singin in the Rain. The people I show it to, prefer the style to the other as well. It really isn't for today's world where we need constant color and action and story progression.
It irks me. But this movie is good and somehow or another underrated. For shame!
