Review of An American Crime (2007) by Cheryl M — 08 Nov 2008
Terrifying. I can't believe it is based on a true story. Based on what I read about what truly happened to Sylvia, this is nothing. The movie leaves more to the imagination rather than being vividly grotesque.
Incredible acting by Ellen Page and Catherine Keener. Only flaw of the movie is making you feel sympathetic toward Catherine Keener's character (Gerdy) - that woman was truly a psychopath and evil in every way.
If you want to watch the story that shows more gore and doesn't hold back to how terrible it was, it was recommended to me to watch The Girl Next Door (no not the porn star movie), which I have yet to watch and don't know if I want to.
