Review of An American Crime (2007) by Pamela H — 02 Feb 2009
During 1965, in the state of Indiana, a single mother commits a horrendous crime. Based on a true story, 'An American Crime' reenacts the brutal torture that young Sylvia Likens (Page) suffered in the basement of the Baniszewski home.
Katherine Keener plays the sadistic role of Gertrude Baniszewski, mother of six, who in her own sick and twisted way, finds that punishing a child is a good lesson. The sometimes hard to watch scenes are graphic, violent and horrific, but are a must to understand the extent of the crime.
Labeled as the worst crime in the history of Indiana, both Keener and Page make this film. See this if you don't mind a little raw reality.
