Review of An American Crime (2007) by Helena O — 27 Feb 2009
Its a well made movie on a terrible account of an inhuman deed. However, it is too disturbing to see such inhumane nature actually existed in the people during the '60s, esp on kids who are old enough to know right from wrong (if speaking of very young kids I would understand if they are being taught to do the wrong stuff but teenagers? no way). I still cant believe it.
In a way I feel glad to have come across a film as disturbing as this. I would have never known how far a thing called 'humanity' can deviate till all faith is lost. Ellen Page surprises me again with her performance.
Nevertheless, I have to re-rate this movie by minus of a star, for hiding too many unknown facts (i am surprised there is actually so much more to it) and I am abit displeased. A movie should be made to tell a story as truthfully as possible even though it might be too painful to bear. The director has just made Gertrude and her children more 'human' than what they were supposed to be during those times.
