Review of An Affair to Remember (1957) by John E — 08 Jun 2011
Hardly remembered for being a great cinematic achievement (it's really not), An Affair To Remember has remained in our minds due to its heartbreaking central relationship, the great chemistry between stars Cary Grant and Debra Kerr, and that haunting melody which follows their entire love affair.
Thus it earns its spot as one of Hollywood's quinessential weepies, forever bordering the line between moving romantic tragedy and corny Hollywood schmaltz; however if the tragic narrative doesn't move you then you clearly have a heart of stone.
