Review of Amy (2015) by Ian G — 01 Feb 2016
A more streamlined, accessible doc version from the 27 club Kurt Cobain Montage of Heck, Amy focusses on tortured soul Amy Winehouse gifted with the Jazz voice of an angel but the sensitive soul that doesn't seem up to being part of the media machine and is tormented between her daliances with alcohol, drugs and buliemia, in addition to some of the uneven influences surrounding her.
The home videos Asif has access really gives a solid insight into her artists fragility as well as capabilities which makes you wonder what she could have accomplished if she had a stronger support system around her to guide her through the chaos.
Not quite on the level as 20 feet to stardom since we were already familiar with her going into the project, but defintely an insightful look into what may have been given the chance. Solid and most likely the front runner for the Best Doc at the 2016 Academy awards.
