Review of Amy (2015) by Rob J — 10 Aug 2015
A mind blowing portrayal of a talented girl who immediately shot to the top with barely trying. It shows that it takes much more than talent to handle stardom. Kapadia is one of the best doc makers of all time, this proves it.
The film also hints at what is to come with everyone having a hd camera in their pocket and everyones lives being filmed from day one. Amy was young just when smart phones were coming out. I think this is a positive change as the lessons we will learn from these docs that are soon to come will be tenfold.
we will learn celebrities are just people and we should have empathy towards them just like we would anyone else. I walked away from this film just utterly depressed. Not at the tragic live of Amy which is seriously depressing, but of the way the public treated and talked about her.
We have A LOT to learn. Docs like this will help get us there. Its not an exagerration to call this possibly the best doc of all time. Though I have not seen Senna yet...
