Review of Amusement (2008) by Rory S — 03 Feb 2009
I'm really surprised more people didn't find this movie as enjoyable as I did. Amusement is a series of vignettes covering three young women. One involves a girl and her boyfriend on the road following a convoy that ends in disastrous results, the second involves another girl babysitting her two young nephews and a demented killer clown (the highlight of the film), and the third involves the final girl and her boyfriend searching for her roommate at a creepy hotel.
All three stories are linked in a way that's revealed in a thrilling and slightly gruesome climax. The film is strictly meat and potatoes, as it gives you the bare essentials of story and plot necessary and then runs free in quick time.
The tension and creepiness is there, not to mention (gasp) good acting! Overall, very surprised by how well this film played out. It makes me sad Hollywood executives are too scared to venture out and try new things like this film and would rather rely on safe bets like another dreaded SAW movie or a pointless remake.
Very good film.
