Review of Amour (2012) by Michael F — 18 Feb 2013
A hauntingly beautiful film, "Amour" is as good as cinema gets. At its heart, this is a film about love but, with a delicate sub-plot that revolves around the tragedy of watching and caring for a loved one when they can no longer care for themselves, and wether life is worth preserving when its quality is lost.
"Amour" will carry your emotions from the highest highs to the lowest lows and does so with an artistry and intelligence that is seldom seen in modern film. In a year where I keep seeing tremendous film after tremendous film, "Amour" ranks with the best, and it has the distinct feel of a movie that the Academy will love.
