Review of Amour (2012) by Alon S — 22 Feb 2013
This movie was really hard to sit through. I felt uncomfortable, and twisted and squirmed in my seat. And yet it that is exactly the point: getting old is gruesome, heartbreaking and inevitable. As much as I prefer to watch romantic comedies, one has to acknowledge that this too is part of life.
Amour is very stingy with is light hearted moments, and prefers to present the cold hard facts, and yet now and then there are beautiful tender moments where you see through the horrors to the love underneath.
As Riva says: Life is so beautiful, so long and so beautiful (or something like that).
