Review of Amour (2012) by Mark A — 28 Aug 2013
That was powerful, moving, difficult, and yet, oddly inspiring. And so very French, revealing the end at the beginning and the ending leaving the viewer with questions. I see now why Ms Riva received her Oscar nomination.
One of the things that may have made it more difficult to watch was the slow pace. More than once we appeared to be staring at a black screen only to slowly see images appear, revealing the couple in bed and one or the other awake.
But, even so, I was riveted, watching this man tending to the love of his life as she slowly withdrew into her shell and her spark grew dim. Such love.
