A little frustrating really after the explosive and brilliant first story, the film trails off and while never being bad just feels inferior. Inarritu directs with verve and a keen eye while coaxing excellent performances, working closely with writer Guillermo Arriaga the two would stick to similar time and story weaving for the superior 21 Grams next.
