Review of Amores Perros (2000) by Ross W — 13 Jan 2010
Amores Perros is the first collaborative work of writer Guillermo Arriaga and Director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu. The interweaving narrative technique in Arriaga's writing can be jarring for some viewers, but Arriaga carries it out more effectively than most (i.e. Crash, Traffic). The film possesses a sophisticated outlook on certain aspects of the human character, and it conveys its themes through well-developed, complex characters.
Gael Garcia Bernal, one of the most prominent up and coming young international actors, delivers a stellar performance as a stubborn youth bent on saving his brother's wife.
The film is so interesting because it examines the nature of love from a variety of perspectives. It's as if the film asks, "What does love do in this situation?" or "How does love behave if this particular wrench is thrown in?" The effect is great entertainment and very moving perforamnces by the entire cast.
