Actually a prequel to the first film features the original series of tragedies when family moves into the Amityville house and the oldest child becomes possessed by a demon. Unpleasant first half is offset by a better second half.
Demonic possession angle strays this from the established haunted house storyline but proved more interesting with some cool effects.
