Essentially this is a prequel. But it can't fully use every aspect of a real life murder story, as the plot strays from continuity established in the first movie. It's trashy in every sense of the word.
And it rips off The Exorcist more than the first one did. Still, it's effective enough, if not necessarily high cinema. Still, it'll give you chills.
