Review of Amityville II: The Possession (1982) by Pamela O — 02 Jan 2009
Before the Lutzes moved into the Amityville House, there was the DeFeo Family. In the early morning hours, the eldest son shot his entire family (without ANY rifle shots being heard by neighbours)... claiming a "voice" told him to kill them.
Although the events of The Amityville Horror are hotly debated, there is no debate about the Amityville Murders- they DID happen. Did the eldest DeFeo son actually hear a voice... or was he just a cold blooded killer?
Hans Holzer, a famous ghost hunter did a book about the murders... and this film explores that story (though the name of the family is changed) as a prequal.
Unfortunately, there are wild deviations from the facts of the case... and wild speculations about incest between the eldest son and his sister, that severly detract from this movie. That and that the script, and acting are less than stellar, and it's just not that chilling or interesting.
