Review of Amityville II: The Possession (1982) by Tim S — 05 Oct 2014
Amityville II: The Possession is a prequel of sorts to the first Amityville Horror movie. Unfortunately, it still isn't as satisfying a movie as I was expecting. It tells the story of a young boy who is suddenly possessed and kills his entire family while a priest tries to figure out what's going on and help the boy, although he's too late in the end.
The cast does a pretty good job, but I often get uncomfortable about movies featuring abusive fathers, and this one is no exception. The special effects are probably the best thing about the movie really.
At times they're hokey, but other times they're pretty good. This is a film series that I just don't understand the appeal of, to be honest. They're not terrible movies, but for what they are, I can't understand why they're so popular in the cult circuit.
Still, I'd take this movie over the remake any day of the week.
