Review of Amistad (1997) by Andre J — 10 Aug 2009
Amistad may have a cast abounding in fame, but that doesn't mean all the acting is superb. Hopkins, Freeman, and Hounsou pull off stunning performances, while the rest of the cast, McConaughey included, bring less than spectacular acting to the screen.
It's a beautiful story, that somehow isn't told beautifully. There are some breathtaking scenes, and some tearjerking ones, but overall, the silliness of McConaughey's character really bring the whole story down.
If spielberg has a worst best film, this is probably it.
