"There has never existed a civilized society in which one sentiment did not thrive upon the labor of another.".

Director Steven Spielberg delivered another unflinching historical epic, an extremely brutal tale that does not shy away from the despicable nature of slave traders. Not for the faint of heart as the film is brutally honest in portraying the sickeningly violent and disturbing nature of how slaves were treated. A truly powerful film that's shocking and intense. The true story of how one case divided a country and ultimately led up to the events of the American Civil War. Excellent craftmanship from Director Steven Spielberg, he is capable of anything when it comes to cinema from family friendly entertainment to honest and unflinching historical epics such as this film and Shindlers List. Very bold, very brave, very intense, and a very honest cienmatic experience from one of the best directors that the world has to offer.

Djimon Hounsou gives a powerful performance, an astounding talent whom I look foreward to seeing more of. Anthony Hopkins as usual is brilliant throughout. Matthew McConaghey is spectacular as well. Not one of Spielbergs best films, but it is.

A remarkable film of power and honesty.
