Review of American Teen (2008) by Matthew W — 29 Jan 2009
Not as haunting and powerful as "Kids" - not cheesy and cornball like anything John Hughes ever gave us. This film and the young adults in it do stay with you though. Very well made and original style of documentary.
Captures some very genuine, uncomfortable and uplifting moments. Not sure Burstein goes as deep as she could have, but it still packs a punch and is entertaining throughout. Hannah's story is especially moving, as well as Colin's mounting dilemma.
Every teen should see this, I believe. For that matter -- every educator as well.
