Review of American Teen (2008) by Brianna C — 24 Jan 2009
I liked this movie, but living in Indiana, I don't know if I'm a fair judge. The movie did try too hard to be likeable & "hip". The problems I did have with it as a documentary were the completely staged scenes and not a clear timeline of the characters.
I felt that the movie might have jostled a lot of the story arcs for the movie and it would have been nice to have almost a month to month notice. The "characters" were likeable and realistic.
The decisions made about the portrayal of the "prom queen" were interesting, and the relevation about her family half way through the film redeemed some of her behavior.
