Review of American Teen (2008) by Firstorderhistorians K — 04 Jan 2010
How well do you remember high school? This documentary that brands itself as ?The high school experience? follows the lives of 5 students as they navigate the chaos of their senior year of high school. I felt that this film didn?t really offer anything memorable, but more just painted a reminder of how catty and irrelevant high school ultimately can be.
This film really missed the mark because it fails to uncover anything insightful or new about modern day youth. You could sit down with a group of teenagers or even flip on the television for 30 minutes and discover all of this and even more pointlessness without investing the time into a full length movie. It would have been a much more rewarding, yet challenging experience had they gone into the film with the question of "why do they act they way they do".
This movie isn?t bad by any means, but on the other hand it doesn?t offer much more than an hour and a half of killing time.
