Review of American Splendor (2003) by Jason R — 26 Jul 2010
Great "adaptation" of the late Harvey Pekar's American Splendor comic...in which he makes his day-to-day life the comic. The film's set up is interesting with the real characters behind the film appearing as themselves and mixing with the actors.
Some of the story is slow moving and the introduction of Hope Davis does help propel the movie. It feels like a movie and a documentary mixed and sometimes the real Harvey Pekar seems to appear as portrayed excellently by Paul Giamatti and Harvey Pekar himself.
