Review of American Splendor (2003) by Keith C — 06 Sep 2014
A very touching, realistic film featuring wonderful performances all around. Despite it's melancholy characters, there's a real sweetness beneath the cynicism. The unorthodox hybrid of documentary, dramatic and animated storytelling is an example of an interesting stylistic choice that is used not to show off but because it's the ideal way to explore Harvey Pekar and his world.
