Review of American Sniper (2014) by Movieguys — 24 Jan 2015
American Sniper is a daring, refreshing return to form for Eastwood. After such films such as Jersey Boys (ha), Clint finally realized his talent again in this intense Iraq war character study. The film follows unflinching legendary sniper Navy Seal Chris Kyle as he completes four tours in the war, all the while watching his squad mates die and his wife beg him to come home. Bradley Cooper does an excellent job portraying Kyle; just one look at his character's face, and you know he's seen it all. Also, the cinematography is stunning, and the brilliant screenplay that never euphemizes the horrors going on makes the viewer on edge the whole film with its unpredictability.
On the whole, this is a very good film, and definitely one of the best made about the Iraq war as of yet. Yes, it has some minor flaws and plot devices, but the bigger aspirations of the film are the ones that count.
