Review of American Sniper (2014) by John D — 23 Jun 2015
While being an enthralling war film this doesn't pander to the "US soldiers are perfect" mentality. While generally being the archetypal American Hero Chris Kyle is shown to be a flawed human being.
It probes deeper into the family life than films like the hurt locker and you can't complain about the story as it's retelling actual events.
Bradley Cooper is fantastic as you want to cheer his bravery and commitment at the same time as slapping him for the way he treats his family.
