Review of American Sniper (2014) by Matt C — 20 Nov 2017
The criticism of this film I find bizarre. It isn't one of Eastwood's best but really if you think this glamorises war then I wonder what film you were actually watching. The profound feeling throughout is one of sadness.
That a man can become so obsessed with war that he sidelines everything he truly loves and in the end when he comes back to what truly matters he still loses. Only really Eastwood can make these sort of films in such a matter of fact, straight talking fashion.
I still found it moving and engaging throughout.
