Review of American Sniper (2014) by Yoshi S — 29 Jun 2015
As usual with "true" stories like this, I was too distracted by wondering what is truly true, and what is fabricated in order to tell a better Hollywood story,.
The movie is well made, and Cooper is great in the central role. Most everyone else we barely get to know.
The movie shows Kyle loving the hell out of his country, and just wanting to keep going back out there, at the expense of his family, and civilian life.
A person does have to get a bit messed in the head after doing what he does for so long, and the movie shows this off and on.
I read some things about Kyle that differ from how he is represented here, but I do understand why the movie writers humanized him a bit more, even if it is false.
It's not an amazing film, but it was still worth watching. I certainly don't see it as the best picture nominee that it was.
