Review of American Sniper (2014) by Ric A — 31 Oct 2015
Bradley Cooper proves once again he is not just a pretty face but a decent character actor. This is a good old school boys own story. perhaps not quite Clint Eastwood at his finest, if you compare this story to 'unforgiven' for example then it comes up lacking, but then lets not forget this isn't a story, or a legend, or a statement about the death of the old west, this set out to be a fitting biopic telling the tale of a remarkable soldier doing a horrible job (killing people at long range who don't even know they are about to die) but doing it expertly.
is Chris Kyle a hero? you bet he is! if I was in the shit with people shooting at me, I would want the people trying to kill me to be in Chris Kyle's sights. This film is not about the second gulf war being a sensible course of action, or a well manged well planned and well executed exercise in achieving goals (as clearly it wasn't) but it is an excellent portrayal of the american soldier.
