Review of American Psycho (2000) by Shaun L — 27 Oct 2012
For me, this is Christian Bale's best performance. I know a lot of people will immediately say Batman, but Christian Bale IS Patrick Bateman. He puts his all into the role and delivers the character I imagined reading the book.
As for the film itself, it's a satirical black comedy masquerading as a slasher thriller. It sticks faithfully to the book and special mention has to go for how well handled the violent scenes were.
The book is notorious for its grisly scenes of murder and rape, but the movie is very subdued and is all the better for it. The writing is sharp and witty and the supporting cast all put in some good performances.
Plus the soundtrack is just pure quality, an underrated classic.
