First off, this movie does have a "theme" (young adults adapting to 'the next step'), which is rare for comedies, much less comedy sequels. Credit where credit is due. Other than that, it's pretty much a "beat-for-beat" comedy sequel - it's the same movie with slightly different situations.
The cast, the heart, and some of the gags at least make it tolerable, though. Note: looking ahead at the titles for the rest of the series, it really should've been called "American Summer".
