Review of American Outlaws (2001) by Anna A — 18 Nov 2008
Gosh, where should I start? Well, first off, I did not have high expectations for this film in the first place. Though I was quite interested in viewing it -- was hoping it was good -- but sadly, it wasn't that good.
There were some fun parts in the film, but they weren't enough to sustain the film from start to finish. Honestly, I thought the film was a little corny. Wasn't sure if the director was trying to make this film comedic or semi-action "slash" comedy, but I felt more intrigued with the action than the comedy itself.
Most of the humors in this film wasn't even that funny. Though they might be amusing, but surely wasn't funny like some of the reviewers have pointed. The film's plot and story was understandable, but nothing too engaging.
This film could have done better if it was a syndicated television series -- random plot twists with mediocre casting. I have to be honest, the film was better during the second-half. It got more interesting, intense, and the plot actually made sense and tied to the overall story.
The first first-half was just cheesy, and again, a little corny. Plus, the film's production value wasn't even that high. I noticed some of the action sequences were a little cheap, and well, if the film had a larger budget, better choreography would help.
Overall, the film did not entertain me all that much. It did, however, interested me in the history of Jesse James -- which I think will be more compelling than this film.
