American Ninja gives you Michael Dudikoff in the role of his life. Which, by the way, really doesn't say much given the fact that Michael Dudikoff must be one of the worst actors in the world. That, however, doesn't mean that this film doesn't have the undefined quality only Globus-Golan movies of that era had.
They were cheap, action packed, ridcilous to the point of parody but without irony or humour whatsoever. In other words: This is one of the legendary Globus-Golan VHS classics from the eighties, which provokes a strangely satisfying feeling if you watch it on cable at three o'clock in the morning.
I don't have to repeat the plot to you here, because as you well know from other Cannon films: Plot is pointless. Other masterpieces from this duo includes Chuck Norris classics such as Missing in Action and Invasion U.
S.A., the Jean Claude van Damme star vehicle Bloodsport and (not true to form) a quality movie such as Runaway Train.
