Review of American Mary (2013) by Isaac D — 04 Jan 2014
The idea behind the film is a great one, but I'm not sure I was entirely impressed with the final execution. The idea of a woman seeking revenge through body modification is so sick and twisted; I absolutely love it! You would think that a film modeled after the Bloody Mary legend would have blood and guts splattered and smeared across the walls in scene after scene once the action started rolling.
In this case, we see a few scenes here and there of the grisly procedures and that's it. If a film is going to center around a surgeon-serial-killer then you have got to bring it in the gore department.
The film came off as more of a drama than a horror. I didn't find myself scared at all, just cringing at some of the scenes that seemed to drag on and on.
