Review of American Mary (2013) by Kate H — 27 May 2015
A stunning movie by a pair of dedicated directors who clearly love their genre. The character of Mary is very well written, as is the film itself. Like all horror movies, if this isn't your thing then you won't like it.
Coming from a life long fan of horror I can proudly say this is one of my favorites. I've seen a lot of reviews that say the movie started off strong but the ending was terrible. If you hate the ending then the directors did an amazing job of truly making you care about Mary and that itself deserves recognition.
The reason you scream "are you serious!" when watching the ending is because you want more. Sequels tend to ruin perfect movies and although I definitely want to see more of Mary, I'm pleased that her legacy ends as a strong legend that can't be tainted in a sequel.
