Review of American Hustle (2013) by Brent T — 15 Jun 2014
Brilliant acting -- especially nods to Christian Bale who is nearly unrecognizable in this film and to Jennifer Lawrence who channels Elizabeth Taylor. And the music/score is awesome both in choices and placement.
But alas the screenplay (like Wolf of WS) exposes the literary vacuum of its author by overusing the f-bomb to offensive levels and displays repugnant sexual deviancy. How I longed for the days in Varsity Theater where I could have seen a sanitized version of this film.
A real shame; can see why critics and viewers, albeit ones whose moral compass has been obliterated, liked this film. It was interesting and entertaining, but offensive. Ergo I should have minded the R rating and skipped it.
