Review of American Hustle (2013) by Ayrton C — 30 Sep 2017
Unalloyed, sexy, sturdy performance by the actors. First off, Christian Bale, has he got some spectral ability to reshape himself as he fancy? His performance as a con man is killer. This movie is based on a true story which is essentially about con men being forced to con other con men by a fed who's trying to con the con men so they can be snared on tape being con men.
That's the bottom line of the movie. A luscious, original performance by Amy Addams. Bradley Cooper as a 'guy' from the bureau is a brew of berserk, rage and boisterous emotions. Jeremy Renner is a philanthropic mayor but is fiddled by greasing his palm.
Jennifer Lawrence plays the wife of Christian Bale and has a loony and peevish disposition. All these characters meshed into a film that is extraordinarily hilarious. That's one of the astounding facts of the movie, its so funny.
The plotting is clever. American Hustle is one of the best movies of 2013 and one of my favourites.
