Review of American History X (1998) by Dan H — 19 Jul 2013
One of the most powerful films I have ever seen. Edward Norton puts on the best performance of his career as Derek Vinyard, a man who has allowed anger to rule his life and is now trying to right the wrongs of his past by ensuring that his younger brother Danny does not follow in his footsteps.
Edward Furlong is great as Danny and the chemistry between him and Edward Norton is strong, and puts on a fantastic supporting performance as Lamonte. American History X is a film about anger, hatred, rage, love, redemption and hope (it's also about anger vs.
love). It is very disturbing and uncomfortable at times, but it is still a superb, moving film that is also quite tragic and sad. Highly recommended.
