Review of American Graffiti (1973) by Adrian B — 18 Feb 2011
Though lacking in plot and structure, it is highly engaging, relatively interesting period film set in the early 1960's. It follows several stories, revolving around four adolescent boys and many other youngsters throughout the nightlife of a town in what I believe in California.
I personally believe the film captures the time period very well, although I kept comparing it to "Rebel Without a Cause" plus seven years (since I think the film was set in 1962 and the other film was released in 1955).
A very interesting background score, similar to that of another film from 1973 "Mean Streets." I suppose the film is more stylish and mainly focusing on early 1960's fashion, rather than on its plot, because it lacked heavily, as I earlier mentioned, in this category, being a bit disjointed.
I would have also liked to have seen more of Suzanne Somers (blonde in T-Bird). She is gorgeous, but I guess I have "Three's Company." A really interesting film that I believe does succeed in showing off the teenagers lifestyles throughout the night life of the 1960's and a film that set the bar for teenager like movies to come in the future.
