Review of American Graffiti (1973) by President P — 03 May 2013
Not as perfect as everyone says, but still a good film nevertheless. American Graffiti my fist time viewing I though was one of the worst films I'd ever seen; however, the second and third time viewing I started to really like it.
The film is slow, sometimes that works and other times didn't, and at times dull. Some scenes are great while others aren't. Some story arcs are very interesting while others aren't. To its credit the cast is very good and I liked the majority of the characters.
Though, the story, writing, and direction is kind of hit or miss. American Graffiti is one of the strangest films I've seen, but I liked it and would recommend it, though needs to be watched at least three times before judgment is made in my opinion.
As a coming of age film, it may just be the best, the emotions it lets off is great and is executed very well. Overall, it is flawed, but still very good and great for anyone that is in the coming of age situation; as well as nostalgia for any person because it reminds us of better days and makes us feel better about the past, present, and future.
