Review of American Graffiti (1973) by David T — 20 Jan 2012
Is this based on actual events? I'm not sure...
American Graffiti is a paint it by numbers teenage rom-com set to the back drop of a small town American in the mid 50s.
The setting is sublime and is full of pastel colours that represent the period and it's all done with great detail, Lucas has done a great job in bringing a realistic feel to the movie.
The cars, fashion and the traditional American dinners bring to life the 50s Americana.
The shinning light for me is soundtrack, it's full of classic Rock n Roll tracks from some of the biggest artist of the time.
I'm sure you'll be clicking your fingers and tapping your toes because you won't be able to contain yourself to the sounds of the rocksteady beats.
I enjoyed this but maybe I was expecting something a bit more like Porkies, I don't know why I expected to be crude and rude but what you do get is a very solid and enjoyable teenage rom-comedy.
The movie boasts a great cast of up and coming superstars all fresh faced and bushy tailed before they went on to battling imperial space evilness, killer sharks and soppy family love in's.
I think I'll be watching this again soon now that I know what expected.
