Review of American Dreamer (2019) by Tvjerry — 22 Jan 2022
Jim Gaffigan plays against his wholesome standup type as a rideshare driver who gets in deep with the drug dealer that he chauffeurs to his deals. This ill-fated situation gets worse as the events spiral into violence.
Virginian Derrick Borte co-wrote and directed this tense thriller, creating several compelling characters and putting them in dangerous situations. Gaffigan effectively captures his character's conflicted dilemma and the rest of the cast beautifully captures the rough style of their world.
It's def on the dark side, but well-enough crafted to keep it involving. Borte's most recent Unhinged (my 5-star review) continues to confirm his ability as a director with a strong vision and the skills to pull it off.
